kin haven

The renovation of a disjointed 1966 ranch house into a cohesive mid-century modern home included unifying and expanding the living, dining, and kitchen areas, introducing expansive windows, and incorporating warm wood tones to enhance the indoor-outdoor connection. It offers the owners a variety of spaces to connect with their children and grandchildren where they can gather, play, retreat, and create shared memories.

From the living room, a view of the built-in cabinetry reveals an opening offering a glimpse into the kitchen, enhancing the sense of open space, and providing access to the bar from both rooms.

A spacious living room offers sweeping views of a forested front yard.

Broad windows in the kitchen frame forested views of the north-facing back garden, inviting soft natural light that, when paired with minimalist cabinetry of warm wood tones, offers a seamless integration of indoor-outdoor living.

The kitchen range pulls forward to conceal the carport entrance and drop zone beyond, while subtly integrating a range hood into the warm, walnut cabinetry.

From the kitchen, a glimpse of the dining room hints at a cozy gathering space, anchored by a central fireplace that nods to the kitchen range directly across the space and is complemented by a cozy reading nook nestled at its right flank.

The walnut reading nook features integrated ambient lighting, discreet drawers beneath the bench to provide practical storage, and a hidden cabinet that blends seamlessly into the woodwork, offering additional space for books, personal items, and extra tableware.

The cozy dining room features a floor-to-ceiling window and door system that opens to a shaded courtyard, blending indoor warmth with outdoor tranquility.

The renovated fireplace features a handmade tile surround and flush hearth accented by walnut millwork above.

Just off the living area, a casual study features an inviting seating area and a functional office desk nook, combining play and productivity.
